Leadership Descriptions: Committee Chairs

The Committee Chairs are elected at large during the annual leadership conference to Chair a specific, standing Committee. The Standing Committees as of the year 2007 are: International Relations, Membership, Programming, and Public Relations. The Committee Chairs serve a one year renewable term. Subsequent to the fall meeting of the Executive Board, the Committee Chairs may elect to apply their renew their term. The Renewal application forms are to be returned to the Evaluation Committee so that they may be evaluated prior to sending of confirmation packets for the Annual Leadership Conference. The Evaluation Committee will review the Committee Chair’s application and notify each Committee Chair as to whether or not the term will be renewed. No one may serve more than two terms as Chair of a particular Committee. Each Committee Chair must have been a full time student for the entire calendar year during which his first term and at least one semester of her second term. If a Committee Chair wishes to serve as Chair of a different Committee, he must run for that position at the next Annual leadership conference.

The Committee Chairs serve as voting members of the Executive Board. They are involved in the day to day communication and decision making of the Executive Board and are expected to attend the National Team meetings and participate in the National Team conference calls. Additionally, they are responsible for the day to day workings of their Committees. They should work closely with the National office and the National Chair to ensure that the needs of both the organization and that Committee are being served.

The Committee Chair is the motivational and spiritual leader of her Committee and should work to ensure that communication is fluid and productivity ensured. It is the job of the Committee Chair to continue the work of the Committee the previous year and to work with the Executive Board and their Committee to develop and execute a plan for the year they serve as Chair.

The Committee Chair should conduct at least one meeting a month, via the internet or telephone, of his particular Committee. Minutes of these meetings should be kept and presented with the Chair’s reports at the quarterly meetings of the National Team.
